DC vs KKR IPL 2023 Match Preview
(Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders)
Can DC End Their Losing Streak Against KKR?
DC - Delhi Capitals (DC) will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their next match, aiming to break their losing streak of five consecutive defeats in the season. The upcoming match will be played on April 20, 2023, and playing in front of a home crowd may provide the much-needed boost for DC to get back on the winning track.
In the last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), DC's bowlers performed exceptionally well, restricting RCB to a score of 175 runs. Mitchell Marsh and Kuldeep Yadav stood out by taking two wickets each, while Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav contributed with a wicket each through spin bowling. However, the team's batters were unable to chase the target and eventually lost the game.
DC faced early setbacks during their chase and lost four wickets in the powerplay, only managing to score 30 runs in the first six overs. Despite Manish Pandey's impressive knock of 50 runs from 38 balls, no other batter could make a significant contribution, and DC lost the match by 23 runs. The form of Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh has been a cause of concern for the team in this season's campaign, and they will need to overcome these issues to achieve their first victory of the season against KKR.
KKR - Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have recently lost two consecutive matches against Sunrisers and Mumbai Indians, and as a result, have lost the momentum they had after two brilliant victories over Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore. To get back on the winning track, KKR will face Delhi Capitals (DC), who have also been struggling to find their rhythm this season.
In the last match against Mumbai Indians, KKR's Venkatesh Iyer shone with a bat and scored a brilliant century, becoming the second player in KKR history to achieve this feat after Brendon McCullum in 2008. Despite the failure of other batters in the squad, Iyer's 104 runs from 51 balls helped KKR post a score of 185 runs.
However, KKR's bowlers lost momentum in the powerplay and conceded 65 runs in the first five overs while defending 186 runs against MI at the Wankhede Stadium. MI's batters quickly dominated KKR's bowlers and chased the target with 14 balls to spare. Suyash Sharma was the only bowler who put some pressure on the opponent and took two wickets for 27 runs in four overs.
KKR's team has not been able to deliver a combined effort this season to register a win, relying heavily on a few players to perform. As a result, despite scoring well on the board, they lost the last two games. They will need to work on these issues to improve their performance against DC in the next game.
Venue pitch status
The pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi appears to be favorable for the batsmen. The ball comes onto the bat smoothly, and the batters can begin with hits through the line right from the start of their innings. As a result of these conditions, a high-scoring game is expected.
Out of the 13 matches played at this venue in the IPL since 2019, the teams batting second have emerged victorious in 10 of them, indicating their better success rate.
